Alessandro Mendini for Cleto Munari silver plated vase 2014

7.200 €

This 'Castello' silver-plated vase centerpiece, designed by Alessandro Mendini for Cleto Munari, was initially created in 1979. In 2014, Cleto Munari decided to reissue it with a highly limited collection of 9 pieces, of which this one is the sole artist's proof. This represents the Mendini radically angular vue of an Italian castle. In harmony with the artistic DNA of Cleto Munari, a creator of unique Italian objects, and reflecting the distinctive conceptual vision of design maestro Alessandro Mendini, this vase emerges as an unprecedented work of art. An artist's proof certificate by Cleto Munari will be provided to the buyer.

Cleto Munari, Italian designer and entrepreneur known for crafting unique objects, collaborated with design luminary Alessandro Mendini from the late 1970s to the early 2000s. Their partnership produced iconic pieces like the "Proust" chair and the "Solis Silos" table lamp, blending Munari's artisanal finesse with Mendini's avant-garde vision. This collaboration influenced the trajectory of both artists' work. Munari's craftsmanship reached new heights under Mendini's conceptual guidance, while Mendini's designs gained an added layer of refinement and artistry through Munari's meticulous execution.

Alessandro Mendini (1931-2019), revered as "il piccolo genio" (the little genius) and "il Maestro" (the master) was a renowned Italian designer, architect, and theorist who revolutionized design with his iconic creations. Co-founding Studio Alchimia in the 1970s, he pushed creative boundaries, crafting pieces like the "Proust" armchair and "Anna G" corkscrew, which blur the lines between art and function. Honored with accolades like the Compasso d'Oro (1979) and Royal Designer for Industry (1987), Mendini's visionary legacy continues to inspire designers worldwide.
