André Arbus pair of celadon green benches off white velvet 1934
Pair of benches designed by André Arbus in 1934. This ensemble exemplifies the refined and elegant Neoclassical vocabulary developed by the designer throughout the 1930s. The pieces originally formed part of a complete interior designed by Arbus for a Swiss family. They are distinguished by the restrained simplicity of their volumes and the elegance of their crossed celadon-colored legs, a distinctive tone within Arbus’ decorative vocabulary. The rectangular seats are upholstered in ivory cotton velvet, whose softness contrasts with the coloured wooden structure. A gilt metal stretcher connects the legs, adding a refined decorative accent to the composition. The intersections are adorned with gilt metal stars, an emblematic motif of the designer’s work. Fully restored in our workshop and presented in very good overall condition.
