This ensemble exemplifies the refined and elegant Neoclassical vocabulary developed by the designer throughout the 1930s. The pieces originally formed part of a complete interior designed by Arbus for a Swiss family. They are distinguished by the restrained simplicity of their volumes and the elegance of their crossed celadon-colored legs, a distinctive tone within Arbus’ decorative vocabulary. The rectangular seats are upholstered in ivory cotton velvet, whose softness contrasts with the coloured wooden structure. A gilt metal stretcher connects the legs, adding a refined decorative accent to the composition. The intersections are adorned with gilt metal stars, an emblematic motif of the designer’s work.
