French artist Philippe Cheverny lacquer panel circa 1970

Mid-century design and abstract art come together in this red, black, and orange lacquer panel. It’s by prominent 20th century French artist and designer Philippe Cheverny and dates from around 1970.
The bold splashes of lacquer make this large piece of art a standout décor choice. Glossy black, earthy reds and oranges, and mottled beige seem to explode from the centre-right of the frame. As the heavy streaks of lacquer seem to splatter apart into tiny droplets near the edges of the frame, the piece conveys a sense of being carefree, full of life. This energetic piece is signed by Cheverny and in very good vintage condition.
