Rare golden lacquer and brass Maison Jansen bouclé sofa 1970s
Rare golden lacquer and brass Maison Jansen bouclé sofa 1970s
An exciting example of French design firm Maison Jansen’s commissioned pieces. This sofa is made from solid mahogany, lacquered in a rich dark brown and bronze–golden finish. The resulting effect is a beautiful mottling of color around the entirety of the sofa. Bright solid brass in the feet, accents, inside, and handles highlights the warmer, lighter colors of the wood. It’s been fully restored and reupholstered with a rich wool bouclette fabric from Lelievre Paris - Reference Lama, and comes with a footstool with brass base and same bouclé reupholstery. The stately proportions of this sofa are impeccable. The care that went into the construction of this beautiful piece is clear—as each piece was made on order only for clients who could afford the top tier of Maison Jansen design. The result of such careful attention, such as the hidden bar under the armrest, and high-quality materials is this truly masterful piece. It’s quite rare, as the design was never mass-produced. Found in great vintage condition.
