Rare large Palm tree floor lamp by Maison Jansen 1970’s
Arching 255 cms (about 8 ft) above the floor, this palm tree lamp is one of the largest, and most rare, pieces by French design firm Maison Jansen. It’s made largely from bright brass, which gives it an air of high-end glamour. But what makes the piece most extraordinary is the level of detail that went into every aspect of such a monumental floor lamp: individual pieces of brass have been shaped around the “trunk” of the palm tree to look and feel like the coastal tree’s bark, and the 14 palm fronds at the top are expertly crafted to be distinct in two different sizes and resemble the smooth texture of natural fronds.
There are light fixtures both above the palm and hanging just below the leaves, so that from a distance it’s unclear where the warm light is coming from as it’s reflected across the room by the bright underside of the branches. In addition, quirky brass spheres dangle from under the tree, further obscuring the bulbs. You’re able to easily walk under the lamp, as it has an underside clearance of 82 inches. In very good vintage condition, this huge, dynamic piece will instantly transform a space with its lively Hollywood Regency 1970’s flair.
