Terracotta hydria from southern Italy dating to circa 330 BC. Painted by Primato, a Greek artist active during the Lucanian period. The painter’s work is distinguished by elaborate vegetal ornamentation, with recurring palmettes and scrolling motifs, as well as the characteristic use of red pigment. The main scene depicts a young woman standing beside a pillar adorned with palmettes, dressed in a himation. The reverse and shoulder are decorated with palmettes and vegetal motifs characteristic of the painter’s vocabulary. Composed of three fragments, this hydria is representative of the ceramic forms produced in southern Italy during this period. A remarkable period piece, fully restored in our workshop.
